Acting, performing for the Move Live on Tour, and judging Dancing with the Stars have all kept Julianne Hough pretty busy this year—but working on her lifestyle blog is what she finds the most rewarding.
“Being in the world of entertainment, as selfish as it sounds, is about me and my dreams,” Hough tells PEOPLE. “But my blog is not so much about what I can take from the world but it’s about what I can give to the world. I want you guys to know my personal stuff and what little things and tricks I like.”
Those tricks span from her favorite recipes: “My stuffed peppers are so easy to make, super healthy but also super filling, which is awesome,” says the star, who recently partnered with Babybel cheese for their Big Dreamers Contest. To beauty tips: “My readers really like when I do braids and hair tutorials,” she says. “I have to do more of those.”
Healthy eating and fitness is also naturally a big topic of conversation for Hough, who spends 2 hours a day dancing for the tour with brother Derek Hough and then still finds time to get a workout in.
“I just want to eat things that are actually nutritious and nourishing for my body rather than just something that tastes good and has no nourishment,” she says.
So she finds ways to incorporate her health into her relationship with boyfriend Brooks Laich by making dinner at home a big date night.
“I love finding ways to be creative with chicken, fish and vegetables,” she says. “Cooking at home and putting music on and dancing in the kitchen—that’s like my favorite thing.”
Though there are still the occasional mishaps in the kitchen.
“There’s been a couple times I’ve tried to get the brussels sprouts to be just perfect and crispy on the outside and definitely burnt those suckers,” she says before adding, “But anything is better than what he makes himself.”
